Withrow High School Today – Fall 2015

November 2015 – Vince Stitzel ’59, Alumni Association President – Even with the summer break, the last six months at Withrow have been very exciting. In recognition of the long standing and generous support of Kent Holwadel ’50, and his wife Marlene Meyer Holwadel ’50, who were instrumental in the establishment of the current Withrow Alumni Assn. in 1995, the space occupied by the Alumni Association in the 2nd floor library has been named the Holwadel Alumni Center.

We welcomed Carol Mitchel-Lawrence ’84 and Stephanie Williams Ball ’88 as new members of the Board of Trustees.

Class Reunions are special times of coming together after long absences, sharing past experiences and celebrating the many gifts of life. Reunion venues differ but often include a Withrow school tour generating many memories and tales. The largest of these tours may well have occurred on August 29th when 150 members and guests of the Class of 1965 walked the Withrow halls filling them with stories and laughter.

Importantly, Class Reunions don’t end with the 50th Reunion. In June, the Class of 1950 held their 65th Class Reunion at the Hyde Park Country Club with 53 classmates in attendance plus 26 spouses and guests. What made this reunion special to Alumni Assn. was the opportunity it provided to recognize the Class of 1950 for its vision, leadership and support of our organization from its inception 20 years ago. Without their significant efforts, Withrow Alumni Association would not be the integral partner it is today on the Withrow campus.

Letters to the Alumni Assn.
From Class of 2015
“We thank you for supplying that classy touch at graduation. The orange carnation is the final item we get at graduation. Withrow is lucky to have such a supportive Alumni.”

From David Bruns ’48
“Every time I receive a copy of the Tower News and read of the great work you are doing and the strides that are being made at Withrow, I make a note to help you out. So at last, I have enclosed a check to help support your efforts to see that the current and future students have at least the same opportunity I had to receive an excellent high school education. Some of the best years of my academic life were those four years spent at Withrow. I received an excellent education that set the foundation for the rest of my life and gave me the motivation and opportunity to succeed in this world. I am truly grateful for the high quality of my Withrow teachers and a broad curriculum from which I could construct a rigorous course of study.”

From Connie Renshaw Wilson ’65
“Thank you so much for the terrific Reunion tour. I hope all classes choose to tour the school – so impressive! My husband and I are really pleased to know of all the Alumni group does for Withrow.”
