Board Report – Fall 2014

Now in our twentieth year, the Withrow Alumni Association (WAI) has been an active partner with the school’s administration and staff in maintaining a beautiful campus and facilities and supporting strong and challenging academic and extracurricular programs. We have been able to accomplish much over these years because of the generous support through the donations of 2,324 Alumni. Just this calendar year, WAI has allocated $27,025 for educational and curriculum support programs, $9,480 for extracurricular programs, and $1,300 for landscaping projects.

Unfortunately, though, the number of donations from Alumni this year is tracking to become the fewest in the past 10 years. If we are to continue to sustain our impact in the future, we need YOUR SUPPORT today.

Withrow Gets National Recognition

SEPTEMBER 2014 – Withrow wins national recognition for its work to make sure students are ready for college.  Withrow University High School in Hyde Park is one of 33 schools from the US and Ireland to be recognized by College for Every Student, an international organization that helps underserved students get to and through college.  The organization recognizes schools that successfully implement three core practices: “Leadership through Service”,” “Mentoring” and “Pathways to College.”  CFES Program Dierector Michelle Bialeck presented Withrow faculty and students their “School of Distinction” banner during a school-wide assembly.  This is the fourth time Withrow has earned the distinction.  September 12, 2014, “The Enquirer”, p. Withrow’s Athletic Trainer

NOVEMBER 2014 – With all the concerns being expressed in national media about serious sports injuries at all levels, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association has reported that only 39% of public high schools have access to a full-time certified athletic trainer. Withrow is fortunate to be included in that 39%. Kelly Camp is in her fourth year as Withrow’s athletic trainer. Every day she leaves Children’s Hospital to be in the Withrow training room by 2:15 and can found on the side lines or court side for every home athletic event. She cherishes the opportunity she has in developing relationships with her Tiger athletes as she guides them through the aches and pains of participation. For many she has become a nutritionist, a confident, and a role model.
